    Bad pictures may be why but that one on Ebay looks like a tree' dollar bill.

    It's a pattern i.e. an experimental design which did not win approval for general release.

    Patterns tend to be quite rare (r.4 or better), yet reasonably priced for their scarcity. The rarest coin I've ever owned was a pattern - an r.7 Standard Silver dime. With only 4 known, it's rarer than a 1913 "V" nickel and three times scarcer than an 1804 dollar. Those coins sell for millions, but the pattern dime sold for less than $4,000.

    They make a terrific extension of one's type set.

    Note the term "goloid". Where else have we heard that term ?

    The famous $4 Stellas... which, by the way, are also patterns.
