I posted this a couple days back in another coin forum, but I can't seem to get the pictures up over there... So I will share it here Wow, Thank you John Roberts and ANACS! I submitted 36 coins to them and paid for only 3 Top 100 Morgans to be attributed and slabbed. Well I just checked my order status and my grades were posted. I sent the submission in and it was logged in on April 1st with an expected ship date of 4/22/2013. I was told that Mr. Roberts was slammed with coins due to the "Dollars and Cents" promo ($10 cost for any dollar or cent coins). Now I know why it took so long for me to get my coins back. So I am looking and I see that a 1902 o Morgan I sent in just to be slabbed as regular and it was graded and slabbed as a Hit-List 40 1902 o VAM 54 (R-6) in ms63! I am very excited to get the coin in hand and will post pictures of it when received. I think it shows how much Mr. Roberts truly loves the hobby that he took time out of his busy schedule and looked at and attributed a coin at no extra attribution cost and not under my recommendation. So Thank You sir and I will cherish it and after I complete my Top 100 set, I may just start to collect the Hit-List 40 afterward. FWIW: I purchased the coin from a nice guy in PA off of eBay who said he got it in a roll from 1960 to 1975 from the infamous and legendary coin dealer Harry Forman. It then stayed in the roll in his SDB till October 2012. I paid about $52 for the coin shipped. Then $10 for the grading.
Nice pickup for the Vam. However, I think the coin is more than a bit overgraded, due to the fairly deep scratches on the obverse, and the extremely weak strike--almost no feathers on the eagle's breast on the reverse. It would be lucky to grade MS 60 by another TPG---might even be an AU coin.
http://www.cointalk.com/t225924/ Above is a link to the last time you said something of this nature to me (check the results).... I respect your opinion, but maybe grading a coin by unprofessional pictures just isn't your thing The coin does indeed have breast feathers. In the picture, I'll be the first to admit... it doesn't show.
Maybe you need pictures that depict the coin accurately. From what you posted, it shows no breast feathers. Not my issue, but I call it like the picture says it.
Nice Coin, I like it. Strike is a bit weak, but this is to be expected from a 1902-O. IMHO the coin grades 63 all day long no matter who you send it too. Mike
Why do I need more accurate pictures of my coin; it looks and feels just fine in my hands? Also, I'm glad that TPG's don't grade and slab my coins off of pictures. You are correct in that it is not your issue, good day sir.
If you are going to post pictures of coins, they shall be questioned as to grade, so it is in the coin's best interest to make it the best possible picture. Nobody is criticizing you, but I was definitely calling the coin into question based on the quality of the photograph. So, if you are presenting a coin for the membership to evaluate, it is in your best interests to portray it as close to the coin's real condition as it can be. Once again, based on the PHOTOGRAPH only, it appears over graded. If it isn't a good picture of the coin, then that is understandable.
I get where your going, but I'm not presenting my coin for the board to evaluate; ANACS already did that. I am sharing my coin (that has already been professionally graded and attributed) with the board. I have no problem with constructive criticism. I just don't see it necessary for you to play "armchair grader" as if I am submitting my coin for your unprofessional opinion/approval, based on a photo alone. This thread is not a GTG or "please help me grade my coin" thread. Its just me sharing my coin and the cool story that came with it. Like I said, I respect your opinion and I know (from reading your threads and posts over the last year) that you have a very nice collection of coins and your very passionate about numismatics. Frankly, I'm a little tired of bumping up my thread just to respond to your posts. Have a good weekend
