Picked up this raw 1886-P Morgan dollar yesterday. Didn't notice until this morning that it has a little textile pattern on the obverse.

    Anyone recognize the VAM?

I think it could be PVC damage....but that's just a guess...

Nice coin though=) I'd give it a grade of MS 62-63.....even with those spots...

Believe it or not, those spots are a "good" thing to some. They're supposedly caused by the original bag that contained the coins. You can only see them if you tilt the coin. I attached another image without them.

The images from the flat bed scanner emphasize hits and hinders luster. Someday I'll learn how to take photos. This coin is nicer than my PCGS MS63's, and I think it would make MS64.

No VAM guesses? Check the reverse.

Nevst, I would say your coin is a solid 64. As for the vam, I have no idea. Interesting clashing though. It seems that the dies clashed many times.

    Thanks. You're right, it's been clashed 5 times. It's a VAM 1C and is a Hot 50 coin.
