    Hi folks. :smile
Picked this coin up recently, it's my nicest IHC so far (I don't collect them, but I just wanted a nice higher-grade coin for my collection). I'm thinking it's MS60. The luster is a little hard to capture in the photos, but it's definitely there. Any help with grades is appreciated.

Looks like a couple rubs so I'll go AU58. A touch of verdigris on E in CENT needs removal. Nice looking IHC!

I agree with 58 because of the bottom of the ribbon and the bottom curls of hair. And also that it looks very nice! :thumb:

I'm going with 55. Just a touch too much wear for a 58. Might want to get her to a doctor though. That green spot can be malignant.

Would acetone do anything in this situation, what should I use to remove the verdigris?

Nice one. I've been looking for a decent IHC too just to have for my collection. If you can get it in a 58 holder, it would probably be worth more than a low grade MS because of all the "every man" registry set collectors out there. I bet Badthad's Verdi-Care would easily take care of that spot.

My understanding is that four full diamonds must be present on the ribbon for an IHC to score at AU and above. Also the lower hair curl must be distinct from the ribbon. These are some of the first wear points on the obverse. Such defects could also be the result of a very poor strike, but whatever the case lack of these features will hold it back.

Looking through a loupe, there are definitely 4 diamonds present. They're a bit washed out in the picture, I'll see if I can shoot it again.

Here's what I hope is a better shot of the obverse. All 4 diamonds definitely present.

Purchased myself some verdi-care so I will do the treatment when it arrives.
Any new guesses on grade with the new obverse picture, or should I just put it down as AU58? I paid $25 for it at a shop, wondering if that was a fair price.

That's a fair price at that grade if it were in a PCGS or NGC slab. But when you add in the fees, etc, it might be on the expensive side especially since it's not a great strike. Those feathers are not very strong.

That is not true - you will find MS coins without complete 4 diamonds. A well struck coin will have the 4 diamonds. So for example a choice XF45 will have full diamond detail. From these pictures it is too hard to judge, but it could be high AU to low MS - just depending on the luster. And yes I see it lurking around the outer edges. Get rid of the green spots and my gut feeling is this is a AU coin. Just too hard to tell from the pictures and a some what weak strike.
