Tough to tell from the pictures.

It could be either Mid grade AU or Low grade MS. My first thought was AU-55, but I'm not sure now.

    It's a nice coin nonotheless!!!

It is hard to tell from the pictures, but still, it looks like a nice original coin. And I like original coins.
I think that high grade, original Barbers are a good buy at today's prices.
What grade did you purchase it as?
    Good luck.

Au-58 is what I would call it.

The coin belongs to my father in law. He is a part time dealer and a full time collector. He pulled it from the original roll of BU quarters. He has sold them off over the years. He only has 1 other one left from that roll that he is going to keep. He won't tell me what $ he has into the coin however, I know he bought the roll 25 years ago.

He has had me list a few coins for him on ebay This is one of them.

Wow, I see why he won't say how much he has into the coin.
1981 was the height of the rare coin promotion market. The 1981 Red Book has it listed at $475 in unc.
    So........he should have bought T-bills.
    Still, nice coin.
