What was the best coin deal you have ever made?

My wife and I were look for a Garage Sells one day in June of 2005. We were looking through the local paper, when I found an add that read: "Last weekend of a three weekend sell, everything half price except Coins". Well I thought there would not be very many coins after two week of selling, but I was wrong about that. When we got here this man had two tables full of Proof set. He was breaking up the sets and selling them for $10.00 for each half. I looked and put together two 2001 clad sets, two 1999 clad sets and one 1999 Silver set with boxes and POA. Total cost $60.00. I sold one set of the 2001 for $135.00 and the 1999 Silver set for $275.00 on Ebay for a total profit of $350.00 and a 2001 clad proof set.:)

First, Silver Surfer, that was one GREAT deal!
My personal best was buying a 1909 S Lincoln cent, in F-12 for $40.
I invested another $10 in an NGC slab and now it reads: 1909 S, VDB, F-12.
    Not bad for $40 + $10 slab.
The dealer didn't look too closely at the reverse.

    Hello,
750 euros (1000 USD) on a gold feudal coin that sells between 1500 and 3000 euros (approx 2000 to 4000 USD) for the last, rare, examples I've seen in auctions

Purchased a 1960 ICG PF68 CAM small/large date cent on e-bay for $225. Crossed it to PCGS PF67 CAM and started it on e-bay at 1 cent no reserve. It went from $800 to $1800 in the last 60 seconds.

    I just purchased 3 draped bust quarters, 2 - 1806's & a 1807.
The are lower grade and 1 has a hole, but I got them for about $40 each.

Several years ago 10-15 .. I ordered a 1913-s type 1 Buffalo from one of those dealers you see in all the coin magazines .. you know Paul Sims , Coast to Coast etc. Probably about 2 years later I took a closer look at the coin at it was a type 2 ... In AU+ condition. What a shock ! By then I had no idea where it came from , nor how much I paid , nor the condition they said it was in at the time ( probably too high by their standards ). Well, once in a while we little guys get a break and that was my best in coin collecting.

There is a small date (1960) over a large date
There is also a large date over a small date.
    Both are considered very scarce.

Buying a Monegasque 1950 100 Francs Essai for NZ$5 at a fair here in Wellington a few years back! The dealer had $8 on it.I looked it up in Krause. At that time,it was catalogued at US$55,but is now US$50.The guy I bought it off was a part-time dealer who thought it was the issued coin.It was a few weeks later I told him that he had sold me a pattern coin.

I also bought the New Hebrides 1967 10 & 20 Francs Essais for around NZ$50 the pair.My boss had bought them off an Auckland dealer for NZ$15.At that time,I was absolutely skint.I have since bought the New Hebrides 1966 silver 100 Francs Essai that was in the Reserve Bank of New Zealand's collection.I saw this coin nearly 8 years ago when I was a member of the now defunct Wellington Coin Club.We went to the Reserve Bank for a meeting. We looked at a nice lot of coins, including this 100 Francs Essai.I never imagined that I would own one of these, let alone, the actual coin itself! I still have it in its Monnaie de Paris cardboard box done up in a plastic holder.

My best was at a garage sale. I always ask if they have any old jars, cans, boxes, etc of coins they want to get rid of. At one place they showed me a jar of cents they were just planning on using at the garage sale and then take the rest to the bank. The bottom of the jar was loaded with Indian Cents so I asked how much for the jar. They said to sit here and count them out so I did. Came to $30 and some change. I asked how much and they said "what you said" so I gave them a $50 and left with the jar. Later at home I estimated value was in the thousands. About 1/3 Indian Cents, almost 2/3 Lincolns prior to 1950. they must have stopped saving about then.

I got a 1932 quarter in a box of silver quarters marked 2.50 a piece. The reverse revealed a D mint mark. Nice find for 2.50.

I found a 2006 dime on the sidewalk outside of 7eleven. That was pure profit!

I bought a half dozen silver eagles for $5 each earlier this year. Nothing as big a find as many of the others here.

Who in their right mind would sell silver eagles for $5.00 each?

My good ebay deal for today, with a winning (and the only) bid of $16 was for a Civil War token with which the entire auction description was as follows: "1863 CIVIL WAR TOKEN". Since this was a common merchant it probably did not get much attention (only 19 viewed it), but it was obvious to me from the pics that this was a flip-over double strike variety, which is rated as an R-9 (2-4 known).

Isn't that a rare date & mintmark combination? That is a very nice find for US$2.50 though!
