I won an auction and tried another E-Bay Seller to get a pair of uncirculated 2009 P&D Roosevelt Dimes. I just wanted them as uncirculated, unblemished and unmarked on the surfaces so I Can fill 2 slots in my "Low Mintage" page in my binder coin book. The auctions said they were uncirculated and the pic's looked good so I went with it. Well after examining this round of coins I had to return these as well because of light scratches. I asked the sellers why they were scratched and they said they came from bank rolls not mint rolls and were not gem uncirculated so what did I expect. I guess its in the term the eBay sellers use.
Are you talking about contact marks? Honestly, if it was light contact marks, then you should have kept the coins. The seller did nothing wrong in my opinion and now he's lost out on the shipping charges. An uncirculated coin can have numerous marks. Even dimes found in mint sets have contact marks.
agreed. many sellers break up rolls. they are still considered uncirculated. many of them will have some type of hits on them. if they were sold as BU then you should expect them to be in better condition.
Uncirculated does not mean 100% perfect. Uncirculated means full luster and no wear. The coins may or may not have blemishes and contact marks. If the seller didn't say that the coins themselves were scratch-free, then I don't think they did anything wrong.
Hmmm ok the way I understood it was uncirculated coins were not touched with human hands and was surface free of any kinds of marking or blemish. Man talk about an education. Thanks. John
There are plenty of uncirculated coins "untouched"... but every one that's in a slab has been touched.
Shoot, it's practically impossible to get mark free uncirculated's. And the mint doesn't sell dime rolls so your best bet would be to look through mint sets for the best examples for your album.......and even they aren't blemish free.
I thought the mint sets were of a satin finish? Something about the satin finish just doesn't appeal to me. Thanks for your response.
The mint stopped doing the 'satin finish' on mint sets a few years ago....... [edit] Oh dear.......the year you mention was satin finish. Sorry about that.
I guess this is the Ebay seller in me coming out, but I hope you made amends with the seller, because it sounds like he did nothing wrong in the listing.
