Howdy;:welcome: I posted the 1969 s DDO anew Die as my first post at the time I didn't have the proper camera to take great images of the coin. Now I have the images in different forms for all to view enjoy. Image #1 is Motto in Negative Check out the Spread Hope these were Better images !!:thumb: Peace;
That is definitely without a doubt no questions asked MD. Tell me how the doubling seen here...especially in the mintmark and date... is NOT flat and shelf like? What you show is quintessential MD.
I knew nothing at all about the true differences between MD and DD until I read this: http://www.lincolncentresource.com/FAQ/machinedoubling.html Now I do. That was 4 minutes ago.
Obvious mechanical doubling, as it can be seen on both the MM and the ate (a true DDO from this year would not). It is flat, shelf-like, and cuts into the devices rather than adds to them. Sorry, but you've got a case of MD. I'd be willing to bet anything on it. Keep up the hunt!
Except for the 1995D DDOs...those have both a spread in the mintmark as well as the devices. There are also examples of RPM DDO combos.
I had heard about the combos but I did not know about the 95, I have been looking for that cent since I started collecting Lincolns.
And the "reason" for this is that the Mintmark was added to the "design" and as such, any diubling further down the line from the Master Hub would also include the mintmark. In the OLD days, the mintmark was added to the working dies and as such, any "die doubling" would not have included the mintmark. Some of these self appointed "experts" should really do some research into "how" dies and coins are made before proclaiming new DDO or DDR varieties. Especially with the 1969-S since machine doubling is quite common on this particular year and mm.
1990 was the first year it was added to the hub. They experimented with single squeeze in the 80s but 1997 was the first year it was done for all.
There is the 1997 doubled ear cent, or what many think is a doubled ear. (There is some controversy surrounding it...however, I think it is a DDO) Once again, there are NO RPM's AFTER 1989. They stopped adding it to the working die after 1989, and at a later date, it became a part of the initial coin design.
