My mind is made up...I'll get the euro 96 gold £2 I love the frosted side of it, and the design...I'm a huge football/soccer fan. I'm very stingy though....Don't like to spend anything.
Yeah, the main arument for spending money on coins than say on new DVD player is that I'll have the coin forever, and if anything it will increase in value. (If I have to sell it some day (Kids need dipers or something) The DVD player will be out of use in a year or so....if my last DVD players lives are anything to go by.
Ulster 5 Quid note. Eddy, don't forget that Ulster has now issued the George Best commemorative 5 Quid note. Here's a link; www.georgebestfive.com . Aidan.
After checking most jewellery stores in my town for coins I had some luck the other day....gold coins!!!! There are no coin dealers in my town, so I check the jewellers...but being jewllerys they have put all the coins on rings and necklaces etc. Not souldered....just held in. They had a 1861 2.5 dollar indian head in fantastic condition...didnt see the mintmark...as that side was obscured by a big gold ring....taking the overall price to around $250 I asked the woman their if she could remove it from the ring and sell it to me for less...she said yes, then a guy who also worked there later said 'I wouldn't fancy taking it out of the ring, you would have to do it yourself.' They had a few dozen sovereigns an austrian ducat and thats it. I'd sooner buy things in person, because I know what im getting...and have it right then and there.
Specifically, there are probably very noticeable rim ndentations visible where the prongs held it in the ring.

I asked if it was 'worth' the asking price. If someone tells me 'that's about right' or 'Give him an offer of £X' I'll see It's a pretty sexy coin for sure. Rare in the UK. On numismedia.com it says a 1913 S AU-53 should run at £210
I say that you are around the right price----I went to Heritage and they haven't sold any 53's but they did just sell some AU55's and they sold for around $440. With a mintage of 408k its a nice coin!...If I were you and you like it I would make an offer and make sure that in there you state how much shipping will be....£6.50----that way if he thinks your offer is too low he can't up the shipping cost. Speedy
I did it... I got the 1996 £2 Proof Euro double sovereign/two pound coin thing. Just like 5min ago...gotta arive in the post first (saturday)
Rare coins. Speedy, there are some coins that had been in jewellery that are worth buying.I once bought an 1872 gold $2 coin that had been ring-mounted on the edge.It was a very worn coin, but I knew even back then that the Newfoundland gold $2 is a very scarce coin series to collect.Unfortunately,my flat was broken into,& it was one of the coins stolen,& never recovered. Sometimes, you have to take what you can get.If it has been mounted as jewellery, then you have to take it,because chances are, another one will never turn up. Eventually,I will be getting another Newfoundland $2 gold, but it depends on the price. Aidan.
I love the Chard website. It was a must before I took to books and I have found it to have more detail at times then the books themselves so I guess that still makes it a must viewing for me.
