Hope this is the right place to ask this ;) What on average does is cost to get a coin graded by the reputable grading companies? Is grading even the correct word? I like variety coins, and say I had a good DD quarter, I want it varified for the type of DD and yada yada, what can I expect to pay? I ask not only for future reference, but also because (back to the ebay topic) I see many graded coins on there. I have seen nice errors, graded, selling for $5....which would make no sense if they paid $50 to get it graded.... I hope I am making sense, I'm getting sleepy and my thoughts are not coming together as fluently...thanks in advance ya'll :thumb:

PCGS requires you ship it to them registered and insured, or expressmail. So if you are sending in 1 coin for their 15-20 day regular service, and you include to and from shipping, grading fee and service fee, you're talking over $70. A lot of people here on CT send economy to save money, but it has been taking 60 days to get your coins back.

Wow, so better to make sure the coin is valuable enough you will get your money's worth! I wouldn't mind waiting 60 days...i'm patient like that...lol So how much are people losing on ebay selling PCGS graded coins for $5!!! Craziness...pure craziness...Even if they inherited the coin or bought it already graded and such....

The one and only time I send in coins to NGC, I sent in 10 coins I believe and with shipping and insurance and grading, it averaged $23 / per coin. These were all coins from my childhood and/or gifts, so the coins themselves were essentially free. This allowed me to send in some Indian cents that had a value not much more than the cost of grading.

The greatest cost is the fact that it takes so long to get the coins back unless you send them express which is just rediculous and not cost effective. Also to mention that the graders NEVER NEVER NEVER get each invoice right. They always seem to grade some coins lower OR wrong attributions or detail holders etc SO you will send some back and keep the cycle going.
