if you go to the link on the first page for the cent project, it give a diagnostic for the 7. I think that is the best way to tell but I can't see from your picture. Does yours match?

Try looking at this thread http://www.cointalk.com/t93080/ and http://www.lincolncentresource.com/smalldates/1970Ssmalldate.html.
Yes, there is a difference in the end of the 9.
Yes, there is a difference in the direction end of the 9 points.
Yes, there is a difference in the shape of the 7.
Yes, there is a difference in the height of the 7 both top and bottom. Some find it easier to use the tail on the 7.
I would not use it, but the LIBERTY's are also different.

    BTW, large date.

No question in my mind. It's the large date.

One word of advice my friend, don't question the experts, they know what their talking about.

After reviewing the http://www.lincolncentresource.com/smalldates/1970Ssmalldate.html as RL has pointed out, look at the proof example of the 1970 small. Mine looks just like that one. The s is even a little higher on the proof, closer to the date. My coin when in hand, looks to be a proof coin also. I have to agree with RL and will be taking the coin in for further evaluation with one of the local coin experts in town. Have any of you looked at the proof example on the link? What are your thoughts?

It's actually fine to question the experts. That is how people learn. There is a difference between questioning to further your knowledge, and arguing that your coin is something hat it is not. I think the OP's questions are fine. They are using observations of a coin to question which variety it is, and I respectfully corrected that. Everyone wins.:smile

The placement of the mintmark should not be a factor, as the mintmarks were hand-punched into the dies. Again, I will mention that the factors of the blunted 9 and low 7 indicate a large date. But if you wanted to bring it into a shop for a second opinion, then by all means do that. Just keep an open mind that it is most likely a large date.
By the way, if you were conceding with rlm's assessment, then you would be agreeing that it is a large date.

Are you agreeing with the OP that it is a small date? BY Idhair.
by non-cents So then it is a small date? This post is confusing and useless. Without some better pictures or coin in hand, we are not going to know.:dead-horse:

One of the things I first look at to decide the difference is the smaller inside diameter of the 0 in the date. Same goes for the 60 and 60D small date.

Since non cents was saying all along that is was a large date, I would assume that last sentence of his was a typo.

Yep, typo. Thanks for catching it. I edited it. I stand with my opinion (and fact?) that it is a large date cent.
