Looked up a certification number and it came up as grade - "deleted" I have never seen that, any explanations? http://www.ngccoin.com/certlookup/CertResults.aspx?CertNumber=451496-011 It's a 1911-D $20 St Gaudens Gold Double Eagle btw. Says MS66 on the slab.
Do you have the coin in hand, or are you looking at a coin for sale? The reason I ask is NGC puts in "DELETED" when they regrade and/or reslab a coin. Sometimes sellers will list a coin in the original holder not knowing the serial number changed. However, if you have the coin in hand, that would be a whole different story and my first suspicion would be counterfeit, although I have also read about NGC inadvertently marking a coin as deleted.
I too check the 1911-D number out. Its one I would pass on. 4900.00++ coin @ 1/2 price. Semi low mintage 646,500 bad number on slab to .
Hmm, the NGC price guide said $3750 in MS66. http://www.ngccoin.com/poplookup/NumismediaPrice-History.aspx?c=19158&g=66
NGC's price guide isn't actually done by NGC. It's just a compilation of the info provided by Numismedia.

No - but it is spelled out in the rules. Use it at your own risk. Heck - there are some online dealers I won't use because they don't take paypal or a CC. Just the way I am.
