    Hi folks. :)
I picked this Bust Half up from the local coin shop today. What do you think it grades? Thanks for your help. :thumb:

    I think it's VF.

The shop had it as F...I think he may have undergraded it.

I don't know anything about grading bust halves, but it's certainly a very attractive coin. :thumb:

Looks like VF details. Looks like it may have been cleaned or at least dipped. If it slabbed without a details grade I would say VF-25.

I like it...I saw it was graded as Fine, but thought it looked nicer than that. So I hopped on it. Paid about greysheet for that date in F...hope it is a few points better!

Hmm.. this is a tough one. Looks like a low VF but IMO the surfaces aren't original, maybe a dip or a light cleaning (it could very well be the picture, though). I do think you did well on it at greysheet for Fine.
    Thank you,
    Jesse

There are what appear to be some light polish marks on the coin...could be an old cleaning. But I still think the coin look great...thank you for your input.

It has better than F12 details, but it has been heavily cleaned. It isn't the type of piece that I would suggest to buy, but the downside is pretty darn small.

Thanks for the input. I had a hunch it had been cleaned...couldn't quite tell in the shop due to the lighting. But I certainly don't regret the purchase.

I'd say VF but heavily cleaned. Still a great bustie though. Hard to find these with totally original surfaces.

Almost none of these are original. Safe bet it's been cleaned at some point, possibly with a pencil eraser.

1817's bring a nice premium on the bay (being an earlier date), so if you paid fine greysheet, you got a nice deal.

F15 Details "Cleaned" as well. Very nice half nonetheless. :thumb:

Some details are very sharp and some very weak.
    Perhaps a weak strike?
If that is the case,i would grade VF-20 cleaned.
    A tough call,but a nice coin.

I like the coin. I'll bet it would look better with a white balance adjustment.
