the fact of artificial toning is correct .. most new aged /modern coins don't tone unless exposed to either heat or chemical , /specific\ conditions..
Not necessarily. Toning occurs where air (and other contaminents) come in contact with the surface. If the coin was in a plastic case, then the reverse would not see any airflow and toning would be minimized to the extreme edges.
Tough call on this one. I'm guessing NT, since the toning pattern on the obverse seems smooth enough (not blotchy) and exhibits common color progression seen on older silver coins (Barber/Seated Liberty era) -- the reverse also exhibits bronze toning which seems natural enough. It really depends on how the coin looks in hand to give a more decisive answer. The intensity of the dark blue toning could point to either AT or NT. IMHO, PCGS's pictures look great but skew the coin's true colors under "normal" light.
LOL! No Catch. I just wanted your thoughts on the coin as these always spark some interesting and sometimes hardcore responses. PCGS gave it a Genuine but thats really meaningless since with a subsequent submission, it could end up with a grade. I happen to know that some folks buy these genuine SAE's, crack em pout and resubmit them for grades. I guess the whole point being is that if you like color then get the color and to heck with what a TPG might say.
