Hello all, Today was a pretty good day. I was really tired and sore but opened 3 rolls of pennies to look through before taking a break. I found a couple of wheat pennies (1942 and 1944, shucks, I need the one in between!), and quite a high percentage of old copper coins, including 2 1969 S coins with the 'TRUST' word looking doubled, and one that doesn't have any of the 'IN GOD WE TRUST' words double looking, but just the date and mint mark looking doubled. They were pretty hard to see, but when I took a picture and enlarged it a bit I could see it much better. After learning from non_cents that my last double looking image penny was machine doubling, I'm pretty certain that is what these are too. But it was fun to find and I'm happy. Here are the coins.
Great shots, I don't know how many times I thought so as well. Then you finaly get it down and can tell pretty quick. Oh the 69 S must be ripe with machine examples as I have seen quite a few over the years. I do have one tru DD 69 S Motto and Date. Real nice on the motto. I have thought about sending it in, the gentleman that was my local coin dealer passed. He was a good coin man. I don't know who to send it thru are trust sending it thru. I think they should just accept direct submissions as I can't see it being a real big cash maker for the retail coin shops. The great big co's becuase of volume use it to thier own advantage, so direct submissions for a reasonable fee should be allowed. Well thanks for the looks and interesting post, Oh and that double date 69 s you show it looks like a DD to me. At least worth a 2X2 and a spot in your collection.
That is a nice find but im sorry to say that in my opinion that the 1969 s looks like machine doubling . Machine doubling is flat and shelf like in appearance caused by the die shifting in the process unlike a true Doubled die which is a made from a master hub that makes a true working die with a doubled or tripled die being the outcome. Nice find tho!!!!:thumb: keep searching the DDO/DDR are out there
