    Fri searches:

    $100 Loomis MWR halves: skunk
$360 Loomis MWR dimes: 1 Roosie

The silver dime I found today was an ender (my first Roosie ender!) but I didn't realize it until I ripped open the roll. Also, today's dime made it 50 total since I began searching in Feb so that makes my first roll of US silver dimes! On top of that I've found 3 Canadian silver dimes in my few months of searching.

    Box - 2 2 - 40%

I got down to last 5 rolls in Box 2 before I got Silver, man I thought it was going to get Skunked on these 2 boxes.

Well...the family is out of town today and I had the whole morning to go CRHing at the banks. I didn't keep count (had to be over 20), but this was the most banks I have ever visited in one day. It was looking like a wasted morning until I stopped at a WF I usually dump at to see if they had anything. The teller next to the one I was talking to said she had $80 worth of halves....I thought to myself must be someone's dumps...so I told her I'll take $10. Get to my car and open the roll to amuze myself and out come 18/20 halves that are 40%ers!!! I went straight back in and said I'll take the other $70...thinking here it is this is my big find. Well unfortunately, the other 7 rolls were all clad...This just shows a) its all about luck and b) always buy all they have because you never know if they are all someone's dumps until you go through them.

Overall, I still had a good day, could have been a great day :) if the other $70 was like the first roll.
    Today's finds: 1x65', 12x67's and 5x68's

Wow...great find Big-Greek! Congrats! Good thing that the first $10 roll you got was the 18-silver one, because if it would have been all clad, you might have missed out on this one waiting for you.

The key is doing a lot of volume. Try getting a 100 dollars in nickels at a time and like 200 in dimes.

Thanks Tabor....you too (sounds like your having a great month)!!

Yup...I could have missed it completely. This has convinced me it's worth buying all they have and not assume that >$20 in halve rolls is someones dumps. Makes me wonder how many other potential silver rolls I've left behind. Oh well, live and learn...and have fun!

    Happy hunting!

Checked through $ 20 in nickels today. No good finds to report, so I was curious about the date breakdown; here's what I came up with:
    1940's: 3
    1950's: 1
    1960's: 29
    1970's: 40
    1980's: 82
    1990's: 82
    2000's: 161
    Canada: 2
How typical do these numbers seem?
    The keepers:
1940-s corroded (or "toned" as described in some ebay listings)
    1941
    1948
    1955-D

I would love to do that, I'll be doing larger hauls when I can but I am so busy right now I barely have time for a penny roll!

decided to try buying a box of halves yesterday just for the heck of it. Complete waste of time as there were 0 silver coins out of 1000. Looks like most rolls have been searched to me.

not every box will have silver. Some people have done over 20 boxes without finding any silver.

Well said gunnovice.....its certainly not easy, takes persistence and being OK with skunks along the way.

Just keep up the hunt and you'll find some silver and proofs along soon enough.

Very true. So far in 2013, I have searched 105 boxes of half dollars. I have been skunked in 68 of those boxes and found at least one silver coin in the other 37 boxes. Basically, I am finding silver in 1 out of every 3 boxes searched. Sometimes, it's 1 silver...other times it's 15, 20 or even 25. Right now, for 2013, my overall average is 1.42 silvers per box.

I'm not doing the kind of volume that others have done on this site *cough* Fade2Black *cough* but it's enough for me. My longest Skunk streak was 11 boxes in a row. Silver is still out there...it just takes patience and commitment.

Been very, very busy and haven't been on the site for a couple of months. My searching has been not too productive either. Most of the banks that used to order halves for me don't do it anymore, so I'm doing one box every week or so, lately even less than that. The silver has dried up around here for me. My last 20 boxes of Halves have produced only one box with more than one silver, and 15 shutouts. The one multi-silver box was one 40%er and one 1964.

However, I have found 7 silver Roosies and found a small collection of 19 CWR of halves last week that produced 27 40%ers. :) My best find in month and months. :D

Hope all of you are doing well.

    Bob
