I only collect U.S. coins but found this article interesting anyway. http://www.foxnews.com/science/2013/05/16/teenager-rare-viking-era-find-metal-detector/?intcmp=obnetwork
Yeah, I saw that story. Just imagine, you're a 16 year old kid out metal detecting...and you stumble across something like that! I suppose that's part of the attraction of the detecting hobby...although most hunters will never find a hoard of that size and antiquity, it's the possibility of hitting it big. Like playing the lottery. Or hitting the occasional 2-300 yard drive in golf.
I know its horrible for a 16 year old to have enough money to live comfortably for the rest of his life. He is so ruined he will never have to struggle to pay for college etc. Man do I feel bad for him.
Boy I wish I was that kid who found those coins.....I wouldn't mind if my life get ruined because of such a great bunch of coins.
I wish we had even a chance to find ANY kind of hoard. One of the beauties of living in Europe I guess. I hope they realease more info about it. I would love to see more photos.
At least now the nerdy kid has a great pick-up line..."You wanna see Thor's Hammer?" (second picture).
