I was searching some dime rolls when I found this dime. Can anybody tell me if this is an mint error?
Because the design is fully present. An off-center strike of that magnitude would have cut into the design elements. On this coin, the design elements on the opposing rim are still the normal distance from the rim.
A broadstrike, by definition, is a coin struck outside the collar. Therefore a broadstrike will not have a struck edge and is usually somewhat larger in diameter than a normal coin (because the collar was not there to restrain the coin from expanding in that direction). An off-center is a coin struck in the collar but with both dies off center when they struck the coin. Hope that helps.
