I've got this yet-to-be-certified 1878-CC Trade Dollar and I am looking for guidance as to whether or not it is real or fake. I checked the weight - which turned out to be right - and it is not magnetic. Anything else that I'm missing?

Also, any idea what it's worth based on its condition?

    See photos here:

From the photos I don't see anything that screams fake. Whatever you do though, don't let a jeweler get hold of it.:welcome:

There is no such thing as a Trade Dollar, Therefore all are fake !

  6. Sometimes I like to buy Trade dollars for melt and then polish them to death and then sell them for 3x profit. More people should follow my business example.

Nothing looks wrong from the details of the coin for a Type 2/2 TD , but the reverse bothers me in the mushiness of the letters . Even with the wear there should be sharper angles at the bottoms of the letters and other devices . The color appears off also but that could be the pics . I'm leary of any TD that's raw especially with all the high quality fakes out there . There's really np way to be 100 % sure without sending it in to a tpg and let them do some further testing like specific gravity and some more advanced tests . Hope I'm wrong and yours is real .
