I was out on ebay tonight and found this auction http://cgi.ebay.com/1940-1945-P-SGS-GRADED-MS70-SILVER-MERCURY-DIME-SET_W0QQitemZ300051680727QQihZ020QQcategoryZ41092QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem I went out to PCGS and did some coin facts searching. The population reports say that the best coins are MS-68 for these years. I know SGS overgrades regularly but can they be serious with this? Incredible. Freddy
You'll have a harder time finding coins those guys didn't grade as 70's than ones they did. Run, do not walk to the nearest exit when you see coins slabbed by SGS.
Freddy: Thanks for the posting, I loved seeing a perfectly matched set like that!!!!! Gee, maybe that is why the price is at $20 with 14 hours to run. And that is what I would do: R-U-N!!!!!!!! Frank
I guess this subject line good to relay this story that happened to me recently. Was doing a call at customers home when I noticed a coin magazine on counter and mentioned I was semi collector to strike up some conversation about coins. He then proceeded to tell me about and produced these 5 texas state quarters ms70 by sgs he had bought. Well enough said, since this was a business transaction of my vocation, just did not have the heart to tell him how many rolls are available like these capsulated %*))()*graded, coins. Best I could do was tell him about ciontalk. stan
You missed the point---thes are a BAD deal--you don't want to get these. SGS is a grading company that almost aways grades their coin MS70 or PF70--a grade that is the highest there can be---they have been proved to overgrade every coin. Speedy
I would have loved to email the High Bidder ( with a zero feedback) and warn them, but Ebay doesnt like me doing that any more I guess. What gives? cant we pass on knowledge anymore?
I agree SGS consistently overgrades every coin. :hammer: I have yet to see a SGS coin that was not mint state. I have a couple and I bid them as if they were AU55 and got a 1946 and 1953 Roosevelt dime for $5 including shipping. Not bad for what I would grade as MS 63 and 64. Just bid as if they were AU, if you want them, and no higher. You won't get screwed anyway. Delawarejones
Lets see... Let me be careful as to how I word this. Let us use our imaginations to to create possible words that the initials S G S could stand for. Imagine for a moment that the first S could stand for Scam, Silly, Sooo Impossible.... Imagine for a moment that the G stands for Grossly overgraded, Greed driven, Garbage..and Imagine for a second that the second S stands for Something, Seriously, Smelling like MMMM.... Anyway. You get the idea. Any resemblance to a real grading service is purely coincidental Bill
The fact is that there are numerous complaints against that seller on Ebay for fraudulent listings, having shill bidders, using and sharing stock photos with others and just about anything else you can imagine. Ebays rules do not allow the use of stock photos on coins. At some point I'll get some stuff together on my website that can lead you to this guys scams and shared pictures. Bill
