Thanks for giving the details on the cheerios dollar. I looked at my new red book and yes it says 5,500 coins but it doesn't say what its for. I guess you have to know what your looking at. Thanks to hemi 1500 for the site for the story.
It should be understood by all that not EVERY Sac in a Cheerios cereal box cardboard holder is the Pattern Reverse Coin. A couple have been found that were regular ole Sacag-a-wacky Dollars! Too bad for the fella or gal that pays 4 grand for one of these only to find out its not a Pattern Reverse. Thats a fairly large loss. http://www.ngccoin.com/certlookup/CertResults.aspx?CertNumber=2579836-001
I have one of the cheerios cent, I had forgotten about it til I read this...made me have to dig it out.
I think someone else posted this also. The item is closed - the seller received one offer and it wasn't accepted. So the $11,000 price really can't be used since it didn't sell.
You should have gotten a cent in each of the ten boxes, every box was supped to have one of the cents. Getting the dollar coin might have been nice but at that time it was no big deal. It wasn't until several years later that it was discovered that the Cheerios dollars had the prototype rev design. Most likely by that time many if not most of the Cheerios dollars had either been tossed into "junk drawers" other storage places, or just torn out of the holders and spent. So far though only one "Cheerios" dollar with the prototype reverse has been recovered from circulation.
