Another Boo Boo by the top TPG in the Biz. How can it be Mr. George Wilson

I was watching Dennis the Menace the other night and remember a group of serious COIN collectors trying to low ball Mr. Wilson for his rare coin, it seems this practice happens into today's world more than one thinks.

How can a group of people back a Tpg and blast other TPG's daily when they missed this coin in the thread I provided for educational purposes only:(

I have heard it before, it's an opinion. An subjective opinion. A paid venture for your well being. The standards are loosen now and they get more of them right then wrong. Overhead is getting out of line. Grading experts want a raise. Let's do a redo and charge for it:mad:

Collectors be careful with your money. Please take grading seminars at your local coin shows when you can. Learn, learn and learn more.

Before I would buy a coin like this for $3,000 I would buy Gold at the price today and sit on it until I needed to sell it.

I just don't get how the so called best can miss it. Ok, I really know why and hope you guys can figure it out.

Also a generic price guide value was given on their website for this coin. I bet if one of the big guys that live and eat this hobby buys this coin, you would see a price guide value at least $20k at the end of the wind down of the new gimmick reconsideration service. The only IHC 67 is only worth 3k. :eek:

I don't get it either. What did they miss? Are you saying the coin should not be a 67? If so, then I disagree.

Only thing I can get from the disjointed rant in the OP is that I assume he doesn't agree with the MS67RB grade.

I must be missing something, was it previously listed as a 66? IMO it looks amazing and i'm not at all mad seeing it @ a 67

Definitely has cleaner surfaces than the MS-66 Red, that you can see on CoinFacts. Perhaps the graders needed to compare previously graded MS-66 coins to realize they originally too hard on this coin.

Plus, the lustre and eye-appeal (which does count) is gorgeous...

I completely agree with the OP (of that other thread), this coin screams MS-67 to me...

Now, I am shamelessly stealing those 1879 photos for my screensaver library....

I don't know. I'm not an expert. And I hate riddles. Just say what you see is wrong (or don't).

Maybe you should just join the CU forum and engage in the conversation ATS rather than transporting a link from their forum to here? I think the coin your speaking of is Beautiful and I'm not quite sure where you are going with this?

Kick me in the knees and call me Sally if I read the thread wrong.

The coin was sent in for Reconsideration correct? Now they have the 1st IHC 67RB.
I would think somewhere in the early TPG's grading of coins they had TOUGH standards and now the coin gets another look I guess it was RB MS 66 and bumped up to 1. Unloosing the belt per-say on early copper anyone?

I do own many coins in PCGS slabs, just seeing a lot of gimmicks lately that worries me that's all. G

It seems you have nothing to offer. I own some rare coinage in PCGS slabs that are Early Copper IHCs Proofs and MS that I would like to get feedback on.

If PCGS is loosing the belt per-say on early copper? Maybe it's time to do the reconsideration service. I was hoping for educational replies, but instead telling a member where they should join or what to post on a coin forum.

I do consider if that coin was a RB66MS IHC it was a major BOO BOO and could of cost the OP of the thread some heavy $$$.. I been there. Until you lost because of wrong advice in this hobby you might change your mind. G

I don't think there's anything stopping anyone from resubmitting coins.
And what exactly is the difference between an MS66 and MS67? Is there an exact definition and criteria or is there some opinion in there?

I figured it had to do with the reconsideration business, but I wanted to see the replies first, as I don't know much about IHCs.

I tried the points game for a little while, and came to the realization that it was almost like going to a casino: the house always wins. It doesn't matter who loses, and there are a lot of losers, and it doesn't matter who wins a little here and there. The house ALWAYS wins.

My solution was to leave the casino.

I would assume the fairly recent addition of 'plus' grades has allowed PCGS a bit a wiggle room for coins that 'sit on the fence', so to speak. I think also that as more coins are submitted, they have a better gauge of grade ranges for a particular series, and coins graded 10 years ago may indeed be measured by slightly different criteria if being reconsidered... having a photographic database of other similar high graded coins has to help as well. I have not seen any evidence of 'grading creep' with PCGS in recent years, in fact, I found they have tightened their belt considerably on the conservative side (at least with Canadian coins).

Lastly, a serious collector, who specializes in a specific series, will (or should) have pretty strong grading skills of their own. Some days, PCGS simply does not get it correct - it is an opinion after all.

I have one coin in my registry set, that I will definitely have reconsidered, it is head and shoulders above anything at a similar grade... but this time, they will have the rest of my series to compare the coin (being reconsidered) against.

I have some secret reservations with this "reconsideration" service as it seems to me that its an "if you pay them enough money, then they'll upgrade your coin?"

I may have to try it out on one I've submitted multiple times for the MS67 Grade (which I honestly believe it deserves).

Say here's a question...........................what happens if PCGS goes belly up? Would we all have to resubmit our stuff to NGC like what happened when ACG went down the tubes?

Besides with a SECURED PLUS on their Slab, still not enough without CAC Sticker green... then what more? Gold, Violet, RED ALERT is Now Needed...... I think this Now ridiculous. I think I better Buy BANANA with Green sticker of CHIQUITA...I LOVE the Coin not the Plastic...If I am going to BUY that 1894S barber Dime, For sure I get rid of that Slab. Because I want to feel in my hand the real Coin.... This is just for me..My Own and very own opinion...I really love the coin...Not the plastic holder..That's all.
