Clement XI (1700 - 1721) Silver Testone, Anno VIII (1707) Obv.: CLEMENS XI P M AN VIII - Papal arms Rev.: A DEO ET PRO DEO (By God and for God) - Charity standing with three children This coin has a hole, closed. Was usual, at that time, to drill coins, especially those which reported religious images, to make you pass a string and fit it on the neck, for having protection of God, Virgin Mary, or Saints. petronius
Due to the euro stuff. a Complete Benedict XVI set is prohibitively expensive. I have the Sede Vacente 2005, which I got somewhat cheap at a coin show some years back.
Issuing such a set would not be possible these days, so I suppose there will be a Sede Vacante commemorative €2 coin and/or a collector coin. The "regular" coins featuring Benedict's successor will probably not come until 2014, but we don't know yet ... Christian
As always Eugene, you never dissapoint my friend. All really nice coins, thanks to posting them! I do have one question for you though. Kinda off topic but I have to ask. Are there ANY countries or places that have issued coins that you DON"T have? If so it's got to be a really short list!
John Paul II, silver 5,000 Lire for Easter 2001. This is the only coin of this value issued by Vatican City. petronius :smile
My newest acquisition. 2 Euro Sede Vacante 2013, with coat of arms of Tarcisio Bertone, Cardinale Camerlengo petronius :smile
