The reverse diagnostics match for accented hair but I'm just not seeing the accented hair or the truncated lower left serif on the I's on these two coins I received that were supposed to be the accented hair variety. Just want to make sure it's not just my eyes before bringing the issue up with the seller. Thanks
The reverse diagnostics for the accented hair are necessary to verify that you have one, but don't guarantee that you have one. There were two reverse dies used in '64 and both were used for Philadelphia and Denver business strikes and for proof coins. The accented hair proofs had reverse die 1 only, while the non-accented hair proofs were made with both reverse die 1 and reverse die 2. So all accented hair half dollars had reverse 1, but not all reverse 1's were accented hair. There are actually 6 different obverse/reverse die design combinations for '64. BTW, the pictures suggest that your coin is not a proof. Is that true, or is it just the pictures? Have fun
Return both coins and tell them they aren't accented hair. Did you see the coins before buying? Also, ditto on not sure those a proofs... see too much luster.
Yeah I think they are simply business strikes myself they don't really look very proof like, even an impaired proof. The seller apparently used stock photos without stating that fact so I didn't technically see the coins I would be getting.
Whats to work out? You bought what were supposed to be Accented Hair Kennedys and received normal hair Kennedys. Either the seller has no clue on what s/he is doing or the seller is banking that you don't.
