Hi all, I'm pretty new to this hobby and I've been stacking bullion for the past year or so. I'd like to try getting into some semi-numi coins. I think this will be mostly to give to my 2 boys down on the line. I'm interested in the GSA Carson City Morgans. Do you guys have any place to recommend to buy these? I want to steer clear from eBay until I know what I'm doing. I've found a pretty good selection of the black holder GSA's at APMEX (I'm thinking maybe going with MS63's) but I wanted to see if there were other places you guys like and trust. With APMEX, I'm guessing you get whatever they send you. Not that I really know what to look for yet, but still.... Any links, suggestions, comments, etc, are welcome. Thanks!
I like coin shows, even if they are something fairly common like GSA dollars. That way you get to see many of them in hand and decide for yourself which ones you prefer without any of the genericness of APMEX or the riskiness of Ebay, and probably the cost of both would be more than at a show. Best of luck, I really like them too.
heck - Just about any dealer that sells Morgans will sell GSA examples when they have them. But that's the thing, they don't always have them because they are quite popular and sell quickly. But if you let them know what you are interested in, they can get them for you. But what's more important for you to realize is you need to pick trusted and respected dealers instead of just any dealer. As mentioned coin shows are a wonderful source for GSA's as you can always find them there. And they allow to pick and choose the examples you want in hand. But make sure you familiarize yourself with grading & the market for these coins before buying them at coin shows as prices can vary greatly. There again that is one of the things that makes a trusted and respected dealer so important for they will offer at fair prices and fair grades. So when you go to coin shows, and you don't know the dealers, make sure you look around before deciding.
