Was talking to a lady today and yesterday at work,,,and she was told by another to see me about what her silver dime was worth,,,so some small talk also showed he coinflation and today she said something about sac dollars and she kinda "found out" about them from the "one" she got from a Cheerios box...If it is infact what she says it is,,,could be worth some serious cash...was reading earlier one sold for 13k @ heritage,,did not see a link to the sale, nor did i see the one that sold for over $30k..dealer in my area maybe asking him to submit it to pcgs. What do you all think

I believe the Cheerios SAC. had boldly detailed tail feathers if I'm not mistaken. If you can confirm it as a Cheerios type, I say slab it.

tdec1000 said this in another thread,,tell me more about this theory. DO NOT REMOVE THE COIN FROM THE PACKAGE WHATEVER YOU DO.....Send it to NGC if it doesn't slab as the pattern then atleast it will still get the Cheerios designation. If it does slab as a pattern then you can cross it over to a pcgs holder. That is what I would do.

Pics!!! Just because the sacajawea dollar is from a box of Cheerios it doesn't make it a "Cheerios dollar". The rare variety has sort of accented tail-feathers. And not all sacajaweas from the Cheerios boxes had those accented tail-feathers.

yes yes it does make it a Cheerios dollar as long as it's in the cardboard. Regardless if its the pattern or normal dollar, now just because it was in the cheerios cardboard doesn't make it a pattern.

Sorta kinda what I meant. I should have used the word pattern but it's the first time I've heard it referred to as such.

I thought all the Cheerios pattern dollars were ones you had to send in for, not the millions that were actually inside the boxes. Those are normal and came with a cent, if I'm not mistaken.

The "Cheerios Dollar Prototype Reverse" was released in cereal boxes. There was not "sending in" for anything. Only 5,500 Sacagawea Dollars were released via Cheerio's and distributed in cereal boxes. Most, but not all of these, were of the prototype reverse type struck sometime in 1999 with the detailed tail feathers. You can find all the information you ever wanted here: http://www.smalldollars.com/dollar/page20c.html

Now regarding value: Don't be delusional about $30K. For the choicest of examples certified and in grades MS66-MS67 you can expect between $3K-$9K. The really high historical prices were for MS68 examples, and paid many years ago. Not likely it would grade much higher than 66/67 and the "buzz" of these has died down a bit as more enter the market.

    Cool find: Yes.

    Strike it rich: No.

I would love to have 1 of those cheerios sac dollars.... the feather details are so much better than a regular sac eagle feathers. speaking of cheerios boxes... I managed to get the cent and it's still in the cardboard it came in. I think they go for $10-15 has that value changed at all ?

I have owned a few of these. The first was bought in original packaging in 2006. It went to PCGS and graded MS68. It sold for $14,500 in a short time. A few months ago I picked one up for $4,750 in the package. It went to PCGS and graded MS68. I got $5,300 for that piece... The market has come down on these coins... Still a cool find!

No. As far as I know none of the Cheerios cents have ever been determined to be a WAM.
