I have seen a number of Mexican coins for sale at auction and this is an area where I am
building up my collection of World Coins. This example has countermarks of an inverted cross
and two negro heads. Can anyone tell me about the countermarks and if they enhance
or detract. They provoked my interest anyway. Marbury.

If you are into slabs NGC considers Countermarks just damage unfortunately.

Personally, I feel historical countermarks add flavor but I always try to buy countermarked coins at less than there grade value.

The coin appears to be authentic. The countermarks - never seen these in my years collecting 8 Reales. Neat item.
