Hi can anyone tell me what degree of a proof rotated die is considered normal and what degree is collectable. Thanks
Normal is either 180 degrees or 0 degrees, depending upon whether the intent is to produce coin orientation or medal orientation. "Collectible" is whatever someone wants to collect, but coins that are off by less than 5-10% usually carry no premium, and greater degrees of rotation bring greater premiums.
Thanks Roy I have a new 2006 reverse proof eagle with a 20 degree rotation. Your right about what any one collects is up to the individual.
Nice! I would send it to NGC---to date I have only heard of one ASE that had a rotated die error----it was much more rotated---but this one is kindof cool since its one of the Rev Proofs. Speedy
NOOOOOOOO SEND IT TO PCGS<<no just kidding ,,NO DOUGHT SEND IT TO NGC ASAP. You might have your self a real life keeper. Like speedy i have only heard of one other.
Really? Since this one is supposed to be in coin orientation it's actually rotated about 160 degrees!
If you hold the coin and flip it over, you should see the reverse lined up. The coin I have is how it looks on the reverse picture so wouldn't that be rotated 20o counterclockwise?
I just read over at the NGC forums that 15 degree rotation is within tolerances and is not considered an error, so 20 degrees may not be either. I would ask them before I sent the coin.
I can't tell by looking at what o this coin is rotated....if it is 20o then it is still an error---15o is the limit but 20 will be well into the area of Rotated Die Error. Speedy
That depends on whether you flip it horizontally or vertically and whether it is in coin orientation or medal orientation.
If I hold the coin 12 to 6 o'clock flipped down and over it's right side up with a 20o counterclockwise rotation hope this helps
