I was able to attend two different coin shows this weekend, one in Westchester, NY and one on Long Island. Each was a successful trip. In Westchester, I was able to get a very nice (obviously I am prejudiced, I bought the coin) 1895 S, Barber Dime certified by PCGS as VF-35. It is the best of that date that I have ever been able to find. At the Long Island show I couldn't believe it, but I was able to get an 1897 -O Barber half, in XF-40! My previous best as only a VG-8. In trends it is tied as the key date in that condition with the 1904 S, both have the same value. I couldn't believe tht I was able to get it under bid! The coin looks original, I had it checked by two guys that I trust. Both stated that it had a v-e-r-y old cleaning, and would still be able to be slabbed. And, it is the best date, except for the 1892 O micro O, which would have cost me an arm and a leg. So, I will not own it (the 1892 O micro) unless I can cherrypick it.
Nice about your Barber finds. In my last "do you want cash back?" transaction at the gorcery store got me a 2001 $20. What? you all thought it was going to be a 'Star note'? HAHA!!!
Nice barber pickups. My 1895-S Dime is only in G-4 and that's fine w/ me. I'm still looking for a reasonable 97-O half. Right now, they are too expensive for me, but someday. As for new pickups-I just got back from a long trip for Thanksgiving break and found a few coins from antique stores. The first one I picked up was a real winner, an 1875-CC Trade Dollar in VG+ condition for $90. I've checked it out and it's authentic. Two other purchases on the trip were a 1843/43 Seated Dime in AG+ and a 1842-O Half Dime in AG/G condition. Both seated's weren't expensive that's why I picked them up. I also received some coins in the mail while I was away. Those coins were PCGS slabbed PF-69 DCAM Memorial Cents. I bought 18 different dates ranging from 1984-2005. They were cheap nice coins. Good luck on that 1892-O micro o find.
I've gotten a pair of AU 1833 half cents in two different later die states, both showing some interesting clashing, as well as an 1807 half cent (not ready to comment on the grade until I get it in-hand, but I expect it to be in the neighborhood of fine) with, and this is unusal for 1807s, denticles around nearly the entire obverse and reverse. Nothing much really---I've been saving for a key date I need but haven't found one I like yet. I did win a 1932-S Quarter in AU55 and I can't wait to get it in hand---I'm thinking of trading in some coins to my dealers for a coin he has but haven't decided if I will or not----its pretty $$$ and the trade would take it down to $ but I'm still not too sure! 1796 S-90 Liberty Cap large cent. Dark and low grade, a truely ugly coin. But also a rare piece with only about 30 to 45 specimens known, and one of the last two 1796 liberty cap varieties I still needed. (I only need one 96 draped bust variety, S-96, but I won't be getting that one . There are fewer than 20 known of it.) I now lack just six varieties of being complete from 1795 - 1814.
My recent purchases were additions to my Lincoln Cent set: 1924-s, 1926-d, 1926-s, and 1922-plain (that was my big b-day purchase! All were fine or better except for the 22 plain, which I got for a steal in G4. I'm now 9 away from a full set. Still missing are the 1909-s and svdb, 1911 d and s, 1912 s, 1914 s, 1915 s, 1924 d, and 1931 s.
Well my partner has just got me a 1oz silver Australian 'Year of the pig' & the 07 silver 1oz Kookaburra but for some reason wont let me have them for another 24 days LOL De Orc :whistle:
Congratulations indeed! And as far as the S-96 goes, just keep your eyes open. You never know what you're going to find in some dealer's binder, unattributed (or misattributed for that matter). Fish
My most recent purchase would be a 1928-p Peace Dollar (AU) and a 1921 Peace Dollar (CH.XF). I'm going to a local coin show this weekend and hope to complete my Peace dollar set. I'd also like to find a 1916 Standing Liberty Quarter in EF, but, I know I wont at this show.
My most recent purchase was today at a local coin show. With the purchase of about 20 Mercury dimes I managed to get very close to completing the set, I'm left with only two holes to fill now. The ever elusive 1916-d and the more common, or so I thought, 1921-d.
