    silentnviolent accumulator--selling--make an offer I can't refuse

Weigh it on a digital scale that goes to the .00 grams or finer. The weight will speak 1000 words

A wife that gives you coins that look different . That makes me want to get married. Anyway, as silent said, you must weight it for CT to make an informed decision.

Ahh..I see said the blind man.... My wife went to do laundry...this was one of the quaters that she recieved in change....wow...just a funny title to my post...not the source of the quarter...dah...my fault..
So what is your educated opinion as to my example posted for public opinion? Chemical? or error?
    thanks

  10. Its nothing more than the cheeply produced mint coins that are being made to replace the once silver quater.
The coin now should be worth 5 cents as its lost almost all its value from that it was made.
One day you may see a large truck at a car dealership loaded with cows being used to trade for a new car .
Our money has become worthless not only in value but from that it is made of.

OK I see two quarters. Which one are you asking about? I suspect the darker one which looks like environmental discoloration.

Go back and read the first reply to your original post... have you weighed the coin yet?

I have to wonder, what does weight have to do with the discoloring of the OPs coin?

This could be a coin that is missing the clad layer. Weight is of deciding importance.

Chemical. Detergents, bleach products, water, and abrasive action. If you look at the edges in the OP even it is colored/corroded similarly. This would not happen if it was a missing clad. Let's not try to make something out of nothing.

If a coin were missing the clad layer completely, this would be one of the first things to look for. The clad layer(s) would also be absent on the edges.

There is little cladding on the reeded edge of a normally struck clad coin ( the cladding was applied before punching ). If you look at the affected coin's edge in post #1, you can see the line delineating the clad edge with the core. Both are affected to differing extent by the chemicals, but the line indicates the clad is still there. Take a clad quarter out of your pocket and you can see the comparison.
