I would say both XF and worth about $20 each.

Yes, but you paid $20 each for them. They really are nice coins and you got a good deal. To find out more what they would be worth, go to e-bay and look at prices realized for these coins.

Looks like people are offering these as BIN for between $50 and $75.

I would not have bought them if I thought 20 was the cap value.

Obviously, I think you got a good deal for coins that are worth at least twice what you paid.

The 1854 looks like it may have corrosion and has been cleaned, but I would think a fair price regardless.

I see many of these in this condition at my LCS for about $20-$25. Even looking at recent ebay sales they are clsoe to $20. I just watched an ebay sale yesterday for 3 that ended at $32. I think grey sheet price would be far less than 20. Price guides inflate prices just like appraisers, real world prices are commonly much less.

I sometimes resell these types of coins to my LCS and typically get 30 to 40 for an xf coin with no problems. I think if you took a closer look at these coins at your store they would have some issues with them. These two coins probably do have some small issues with them but at the price they went for I think I can make a few bucks if I sell them.

    Nice coins, especially the 1847.

I would grade the 47 as 25 net 20 for nicks although I could see others saying 20 net 15. The 54 would be 20 net 10 for corrosion. As such I think the value on the 47 book is right around $40 and for the 54 it's around $20. These are EAC grades, I agree with others that the 47 is probably commercial XF while the 54 is details.

The 54's have one variety which commands a hefty premium, the N30, which this coin is not. The 47s have a handful of rare varieties which command a premium, but I am fairly confident this coin is not one of them.

Very nice, that's an N13 with the heavy die crack through MER on the reverse. You can compare the detils inside and outside the crack and see they shifted quite a bit, it's basically a retained cud.

I would put that as a straight 30, although i am suspicious that it has been recolored but even if so it was done very nicely. It's listed as an R4 variety although I think that's a tad generous, but books for quite a bit more than you paid, 30 is $130, 25 lists at $75.

I like that one too :) Color can be tough to judge in pictures, but the 52 looks a lot more natural than the 47. See how the worn portions of the coronet have a different color than the protected portions of the coronet? That's one of the things I look for on worn late date large cents to determine how original the surfaces are.

There are a couple 52 varieties which bring a premium, but I don't think this is one. Nothing jumps out to help identify the variety and I would put the grade somewhere around 30 net 25 or 25 net 20 for the rim issues. Very nice coin, an honest worn late date with original surfaces.
