Maybe! Some mint products go down in price because they were over priced and over sold. Also depends on demand in the future. Also, some coins directly from the mint have problems and should be returned for exchange, so you must be able to grade and recognize problem/low grade coins. Buying directly from the mint does give one the best chance of getting high grade coins at issue price (if you know how to grade).
Excellent, excellent advice, thanks! I suppose that I may not need to identify the difference between the 69-70, but you should be able to distinguish that they are NOT 69 or 70.
Learn to grade between a 69 and a 70? Never going to happen. I buy from the mint and I won't keep substandard coins, I would return them in a heartbeat. The coins I have in my collection I don't think I'd have any problem selling as raw coins.
Hard to say. I believe in the long run, even a lower grade low mintage coin will be worth something. The problem arises when most of a given coin are higher grade and only a few are lower grade, so it makes it very tough to sell the lower grade coin, unless it’s to an unknowledgeable buyer. I suspect that’s what’s going on now with raw 2011 ASE sets.
Yeah, I used to say the same thing – but, after viewing a lot of graded 69’s and 70’s, it’s not hard to tell with close inspection at 5x. I do disagree with the often crazy differences in price between 69 & 70, but that’s the market for now.
I've been watching the prices for a couple of years since I have an unopened box of five. They are running about $3,250-3,500 on the bay. They have dropped from their high of about 4,000 after the sellout but they've maintained value for about the past year.
