Sorry for the many questions i've been asking today but i keep reading about getting silver and valuable coins from the teller trays. What do you look for in their trays? And how do the tellers decide what to put in there?

Usually visible from the customers side of the counter, used to store and sort loose coins.

Oh. So just everything they get that doesn't equate to a roll?

A teller tray is a tray that the bank tellers keep their loose coins in that they give out to customers. If a customer gives them change to round up their check or its the change the tellers use when they give out you your money. Some times people will bring in a few silver half dollars and ask the teller for bills for them.

Oh, i'll have to check it out next time i go to the bank. I never even noticed it since i just got the boxes. And handed them back to the teller in the box.

A lot of banks have half walls that the trays are behind now so that customers can't seem them. Don't lean over and try to look at them; they don't like that. If you ask nicely some, not all, will let you look.

If the tray is visible, just look at the edges... silver stands out like a sore thumb. However, you don't really have to look. Just ask if they have any halves or large dollar coins... and buy them if they do. Normally, they'll have a few loose ones, sometimes more. Most of the time, you'll strike out.. but once in awhile you'll get lucky. It's all a matter of timing.

Yeah, one of the banks i go to has the half wall with the glass and the other just has a high desk.

I'll ask next time i'm there (probably sometime this week)

    thanks for the help!

As a general rule, I wouldn't recommend asking a teller about specific dates. You could wear out your welcome quickly.

Yeah, i dont think i should ask that at this bank. It's the only one with more than one box in stock.

Banks hate halves, therefore no matter what date or condition I tAke the halves to get them out of their hair. This makes them want to save them for me and call me when they get them because no matter what I will take them. They're scratching your back, so scratch their back. It pays off.
