Just for the record the 1876 quarter will go back to PCGS to be re-holdered as soon as I have enough to make it worth my time to send them in. There is a nasty scratch across the front that really detracts from the coin. Paul
I'm partial to NGC holders myself. I like my good looking coins to look even better and I think the current NGC holder enhances a coins look. So I wouldn't have the problem spending $15 more for a different company's slab. Plus PCGS' slabs still seem kind of cheap to me (I still buy them tho, just don't target them much), NGC is where it's at. To me when you have a higher end collection, viewing and storage methods should be of little concern to you money wise. I mean don't go overboard or anything but spending a few extra bucks to freshen up your awesome coins in my opinion is well worth it. Lets also remember that I am the type of guy who would take a complete set of something in various holders (even across generations of the same TPG) and submit them all for uniform purposes so everything was neat, complete, and in order. I'm kind of anal like that. Either way, it seems his choice has been made and I agree with his decision to go with PCGS for a reholdering. If that's what makes his coin fit his collection and satisfies his desires, then that's all we can do as collectors and mentors.
I saw this and the price seemed right. It's my second gold coin. This is my first coin from the Perth Mint as well. I wanted to get a nice affordable gold coin for the year my daughter was born. I have a neat little type set I am putting together of coins.
A sixpence I picked up from a collector here on CT. Elizabeth I (1558 - 1603 A.D.) Silver Sixpence O: ELIZABETH: D'. G'. ANG: FR: ET: HI: REGINA, crowned bust left, rose behind. R: POSVI DEV' ADIVTORE M. MEV' (I have made God my helper), quartered coat-of-arms (passant lions and fleurs-de-lis) on long cross fourchée,1571 above shield. Tower mint with castle mintmark. 2.9g 27mm S2562
Thanks for sharing. I've been reading up on the Jamestown Colony in Virginia and always wondered what coins they would have brought over from England, if any. The first settlers arrived in 1607, so your coin is definitely a candidate.
Decided to possibly start doing registry sets. This is the first pickup for my 1950-64 proof collection. not worth a lot of points, but man is she beautiful. 1963 NGC PF-67. This coin has amazing blue surfaces, with nice burnt red/orange/yellow hues. Here is another toner for the set. NGC PF-67 1962. I have to admit, the photos of this coin are a little washed out and dark. but this coin has nicely splothced gold on both the obv and rev. the rev also has a few hits of blue.
I just bought this, so the pictures aren't mine (even though I couldn't take this nice of a photo anyway), hope it looks this nice in hand.
Picked up this nice 1883 P Jefferson error. Not sure if it's just off center, or something a little more. Lame phone pic. edit: not lame phone pic
I'm not quite sure, I don't have it in hand so I couldn't say, but it does kind of have the look of a 64. Thanks for the kind words, Jesse

Looks full steps too Greg....next time ask me I have a boat load of these in different degree of off center. Paddy
