    edfau:
Most of the 1955 'doubling' are the poorman's double dies. So named because it was/is a cheap way to plug that hole in your collection.
The only one with real value is the 'original' 1955 double die, although in the early sixties the 1955/5 (poorman's double die) was very popular and sold for a nice premium, say a dollar or two.
Today, there is little premium to the pooman's double die, unless you advertise on Ebay, then all bets are off, and who knows what it would bring.
    :)

    Well, now ya tell me.
Seriously, I just checked Wexler & Flynn's " The Authorative Reference on Lincoln Cents", and....
Nothing. There are no listed repunched mintmarks, double dies, etc for the 1955 S.
Perhaps it would help if you were able to post some pictures.
Especially of the dates and 'doubling'.

    Treashunt,

:loud: Was you calling me or are you named Frank????:D :hammer: LOL!!!

The Fourth Edition - Volume I of the Cherrypicker's Guide to Rare Die Varieties lists a 1955-S/S/S -
FS-021.97 (RPM #1). I have one of these in high grade BU Red. The Cherrypicker's Guide show a value of $25 iin MS63 and $65 in MS65 but as we all know. However, this Volume of the Cherrypicker's Guide is almost 6 years old and older if you count the time it took to go to print and then be released. It sure would be nice to see an updated version come out with updated values and corrections to some incorrect values. Heck, if that was to happen, we will probably have to wait another 6 years or more, like we did for the Fourth Edition - Volume II. I know that J.T. Stanton passed away which caused a lot of problems with Copyrights, Ownership, Printing Rights and the such but as Coin Collectors and Coin Dealers, we need better and more often updates to values as well as new errors and varieties.

I can only relate to what I heard in the early summer at a Coin Show that I attended, when I inquired as to what was the delay (this time) for the release of the Fourth Edition - Volume II of the Cherrypicker's Guide! Several Coin Dealers said that J.T. Stanton had passed away and that Bill Fivaz and I think Whitman were negotiating with his' widow for the purchase of the exclusive rights to the book. The information that I received may be partially or totally wrong but one fact remains, J.T. Stanton has dropped off the radar and very little has been actually said about him in the past couple of years. Maybe I will call Stanton Books and Supplies and make an inquiry about Mr. Stanton!

To the best of my knowledge, JT is fine and was dealing with some medical issues.

    Frank:
The reason for the delay in the printing of the Cherrypickers' Guide, as reported in Coin World, and in a letter from JT Stanton in the same issue was becuase he had developed an addiction to (I believe) pain pills.
He checked into a rehab and was doing better.

    Treashunt,

This information about Mr. Stanton was probably withheld until rumors about him had already started circulating in the Coin Collecting and Dealing world! As anyone knows that has been privileged to be a part of a Rumor Study, rumors can change with each passing from person to person and change significantly with time.

Addictions of any kind are bad enough but to delay the release of information (if this was the case) and then wake up one morning to find out that you are dead when your not  , can do a lot of damage!

IIRC some guys on the Error email list were just saying a few months back that when the CP guide #2 was released JT was at the show signing copies.

To quote Mark Twain, "The rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated".

So, JT can now join some illustrious ranks.
