I picked up this coin that had a shark sticker on it. I haven't seen one before so I left it on. Not sure if someone did this themselves or if it's some kind of quality guarantee sticker. What do you guys think?

My guess is this is a dealers logo that he puts on the slabs he sells. I doubt it has anything to do with quality at all.

That being said, there are some dealers who sticker slabs which does mean something. For example, Eagle Eye Rare Coins is a very well known dealer for cents and they put a sticker on the slabs they sell. I know that some people consider the coins they sell to be very high quality and thus slabs with that sticker do mean something to some.

Other than CAC, Eagle Eye Rare Coins is the only other sticker that I am aware of that is worth anything/ means anything. But I have seen that Shark sticker before, maybe on eBay auctions.

I could have sworn there was one other big dealer who did it...but I'm drawing a blank. Maybe not.

I've bought a few things from Rick at Eagle Eye. I stop in every time I'm in Tuscon visiting my daughter. Unfortunately, the few things that came in slabs were cracked out, so his sticker of approval is gone.

:dead-horse: stickers belong on bumpers and a kid's bike..... other than that to me useless! In fact I have never purchased a coin with a green bean ,shark....or any other type of advertisement that puts money in anothers pocket..and expects me to loose more out of mine because of a sticker....My 2 cents

I'm only a dolphin. Now how many actually remember that....

No matter what sticker is on the coin - buy the coin not the holder or the sticker. Little late to the discussion.

Well Hobo had a Rosanne Rosanadana reference the other day, so I thought this was the right crowd. :)

I have heard of CAC and Wings, but not the shark. I would leave it on though, to me its like merchant stamps from the far east.

CAC and Eagle eye photo seals are the only stickers that should command any premium.

Coins with CAC stickers are reviewed by John Albanese who is a well known coin grading expert who is giving his opinion that the coin is a very good quality coin. This is why people pay a premium for CAC stickered coins.

Eagle Eye Photo seals are stickers from Rick Snow a well known expert of Flying Eagle and Indian Cents. He has published many works and varieties on the subject of Indian Cents so he has the expertise to determine whether or not a coin is accurately graded and attributed.

Companies like WINGS do exist....but who is the expert stickering the coin? Even if WINGS genuinely wants to grade accurately I doubt seriously they have any expertise to do it. Also since they do world coins.....they would need an army of experts since world coins are a HUGE range of different coins. If the "expert" placing the stickers on the coins is not well respected then the sticker should be given the same value as a 3rd tier slab.
