what are you doing these few days regarding your coins or collections before christmas?. adding or buying more coins. organized them. giving some coins to relatives or children. inventory. or just looking and searching?.
Well lets see I hope to pick up a few more bits when I visit Germany next month for the Xmas Fair's in Kolon:thumb: hopefully might find some Notgeld & German Kilowear Stamps as well. Other than that I am soaking some Roman coins & got some more to come as a Xmas gift :thumb: and sorting through 4Kilos of stamps De Orc Ps got about 20 box,s of trading cards to open at Xmas as well LOL
Giving some coins to my father and looking for some key dates that I need. I know I am getting a new microscope and some airtite penny holders. What about you? Sounds like you are going to have fun - just how many stamps are there in 4 kilos? I have thought several times about getting some of those roman coins off of ebay(just for fun). If you do not mind would you send a short PM on how you soak and clean them.
I definately won't be buying any coins for my self this coming month. I've got my hands full shopping for others. I'm sure I'll be looking at my coins, and reading about coins, as usual. I expect I'll probably get some coins from family members because they all know I'm easy to shop for, just buy me a coin and I'm happy. And, I'm giving ancient roman coins to two good freinds who are very interested in history. Happy Holidays!
I have bought some ASEs, proof set and stuff for family members. I should also be able to pay off an 1889-cc and 1880-cc Morgan I have on layaway. I am getting closer to having a complete Morgan set.
Always adding coins. Dropping hints to everyone I know that I want coins. Buying coins for people to increase coin awareness in my area. Buying more books to fill Writing Santa with wish list. You know, the usual.
finally getting a early proof sheild nickel liberty nickel or buff or a ihc proof and maybe a key date for my lincolns
Thanks, Ranchhand, that photo of the original box for the Bridgeport was really neat. I have never seen one before. Congratulations on a great find.
what i ll be doing is still waiting for my 06 legacy set that I ordered on aug 15. says it will be shipped dec 15.cant wait
Its an ebay find from a dealer i have purchased from before, I don't have it in hand yet. The seller offers an interest free lay-away plan for established customers... if you are interested in the dealer just PM me for their ebay handle, they are nice (and have choice stuff) I have been doing a ton of research and reading on commems. Not that hard to find free time considering how hard the commem set can be... they where selling it for a solid premium, I did some research and the original packaging is rare, between 100 and 500 original Bridgeport boxes still exist. Now that's rare I figure in 40 years when i sell these coins to buy an island in the pacific (hey it could happen) that having unique and interesting items like this would be a solid bonus. I will ask the dealer if they sent the coin in to be graded out of this box, they stated int he auction that the coin was in the box for many years and that its a new style NGC holder. I assumed they sent it in for grading. No way to be sure, but it doesn't really matter. I think that this will be my last purchase for the year as far as expensive coins go, I just bought $1000 in wire for my house! OUCH! As far as Christmas goes i gave my brother a marine coin and stamp set last year (he is a marine) and he liked it. I told him to keep it safe and not to open it (as in take the coin out) This year i will probably not be purchasing any numismatic items for my family, as they do not share my interest. I wish that the mint would produce a coin set of American wildlife.... like a coin with a turkey, a deer, etc. kind of like other mints have done. Or a coin series on U.S. parks, they did a Yellowstone but we have SO MANY more parks. (big bend comes to mind) I think it would be a grand idea, each coins sales go to the park for upkeep and rangers, or a coin series on endangered American wildlife to help with conservation. No one seems to really be excited over the presidential dollars... The state quarter program worked because of local pride, etc. I have heard that if you tracked new coin collectors that it was like a "wave" going across the nation, as each new state quarter was released a surge in coin collecting interest followed. I must admit that it was the birth of my son and the Texas state quarter that got me back into collecting. When my son was born i remembered that my parents had purchased a proof set for me, and how much i liked coins when i was a kid and young adult. I started back into collecting by purchasing silver bullion coins for my sons birth year, and well, its just spread from that. Christmas is a great time to spread collecting, its amazing how people can get a common date circulated buffalo nickel or mercury dime and just go "wow". I was thinking of buying some common date walkers in VF to give to friends as a little token for Christmas. I am rambling attached are bigger pics of the Bridgeport if anyone is interested. Sorry for going off topic.
I'm waiting on several proof ASE's, unc ASE's and proof sets to arrive (hopefully by Xmas) to give to relatives as gifts. Of course I couldn't resist ordering a few items for myself as well.
x'mas planning to buy more coins i plan to buy gold coins rather than silver this time during this x'mas. my silver collections is too plentiful. i think a little gold coin to my possesion is not bad. what you think?.
