This nice little ancient last left Carol Stream Illinois (close to Chicago)...on April 22nd. That was 6 days ago not including Sunday. Carol Stream is about 2 hours from my house. I have a bad feeling it's gone. http://www.ebay.com/itm/330903224264?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
Dude, you have to not stress over shipping. Ancient coin collecting is a relaxing hobby, slower paced. I buy coins from all over the world, some take 4-5 weeks to roll in. Relax, most stuff shows up, its more a matter of your local post office than anything. I am lucky, MN post offices seem to function better than some other locales.
It was shipped via 1st class package services. Once a package crosses the Illinois border, it slows down dramatically. The longest I had a package take once in Illinois, to go to my house, was 5 days. It went from Oklahoma to Illinois in less than 3 days. Anytime I send or receive, it's very slow in Illinois. It makes you wonder what goes on behind the scenes here.
Without getting too political, Illinois is one of the strongest union states. I used to be in a union years ago. I don't think anything has changed.
Mat seems to have problems in LA from what I hear. Yes, we do not have the efficiency of DeutschePost, but I still feel we have a good PO in this country. Go around the world and you can find some truly terrible ones. M wife tried to send baby clothes to a friend of hers in Thailand once. Three times in a row they were stolen. Seems that any package coming from the US is assumed valuable at some point on the route and taken. We should be thankful we still have a PO that valuables can be shipped and received most of the time. I have never had a coin go missing, (knock on wood). Delayed, yes, but never lost.
I have a few gone missing over the years. I even had one where the envelope showed up, but it had been opened and the coin removed. Whoever it was, didn't even try to conceal that it had been opened.
Are you northern california or southern? As chris mentioned I have been having nothing but issues with the post office since late Oct. of last year & really it hasnt stopped.
I have to agree with you. Our PO is not the best but for the land mass that they cover and the fact I can get a package from CA to CT in 2 days time is note worthy. The only real loss I ever had being the package was shipped and never received came Royal Air. Lost was 4 Edward I pennies very nice that I bought at 12 GBP a piece. I was sad.
Btw Tim, interesting coin. Much more interesting than most beginners LRB coins they choose. Do you know what is unusual about it?
I think you're well within the time frame for Oregon. But $4 to mail one nickel-sized coin? Was it insured? I'd ship for 66 cents - 1 ounce non-machinable letter, coin between two cardboards.
