I submitted this 1850 Large Cent to PCGS which is the first coin I have sent in to any TPG.

So do you think it will grade or get bagged?

I'm not familiar with grading large cents, but it looks like it would grade 55/58 if the lack of detail on the stars isn't due to a weak strike. What concerns me most are the two dark spots on the obverse, one above her brow and one between 8 & 9 o'clock on the denticles.

Leadfoot is your man for this, but I see nothing that would stop the coin from being graded.

Agreed. I know next to nothing about grading copper coins, but it looks like a no problems coin to me.

I'm thinking the image makes it look MS-63. Nice coin.

It's a nice coin, but my only concern is a little graininess on the surfaces. If this is environmental damage, then you could get a problem coin back. But it's worth a shot. I'm curious to see what they say.

Does anyone know why the date is so tilted?

I was thinking 64BN, but what do I know 'bout large cents? :p

    I believe that's die erosion

The whole obverse image is rotated clockwise about 10 degrees

Nice. If you don't mind, what tier was the coin submitted at? I'm curious, since it took essentially two months.

If it was MS64 RB, PCGS claims that they'd charge for the higher tier (value over $300) before returning the coin, so I guess that brings up the next question, since the coin "guides" at $750 in MS64 RB, did PCGS charge you the "regular" fee after the fact?

Great!! You must have been surprised, I know I am. I was only thinking it would grade AU58 or MS60. Good for you, time to make a nice profit or treasure the coin for a few years. :thumb: :D
