I found this in My coins I got from My Parents last weekend, it has an off die error & it clipped the top of the letters off on the front and DD on the back. Does this coin have any extra value to it. Thanks for any input yo can give Me.
It is well circulated & I know My dad did not clean it, he has been pasted for 23 years now. I'm sure he found it that way and pulled it from one of his tills from a business he owned. I just happen to see it while going through all the coins I got from them.
It's called a MisAligned Die and had it been in uncirculated condition, it might have a sizeable premium of around $100 or so. However, given the fact that it appears to have been harshly "messed" with, I don't think you'd be able to get $10 for it.
I have it here in front of Me, I see from the 1 photo that it looks like it has been cleaned but that's not the case at all. It was a Circulated Coin, but there is NO Harsh Cleaning on this coin. I have looked this thing over in a jewelers loupe and see no harsh cleaning marks. What scratches are there are from Circulation. Monday I will take it to the coin shop I deal with here and have them look it over for Me and get a better Idea about the coin.
Don't take this the wrong way but I agree the coin has been cleaned and im pretty sure 19Lyds is of far more help then any dealer would be. He could or probably already has written a book on them.....
Maybe its harsh cleaning, maybe these are marks left by aliens, maybe circulation, it doesn't really matter what caused it. The marks above "7", above "we" and between Liberty "T" and "Y" are damage and hence reduce the value. I do believe it would make $10 on eBay, maybe a bit more.
