Since the rims look to be unaffected by whatever it is that we're looking at, I would siggest that its a byproduct of the minting process and from what I've seen, it is not uncommon on todays Zincoln Cents.

Having said that, I also need to say that it's one ugly MS66!

thats what I thought-I loked at it twice the checked the number on ngc--then I blinked three more times. How is it possible that one side of the coin is graded as such and....er....don't look at the back of the coin?.....I know! It was the end of the graders shift and he/she forgot to look at the other side of the coin???

Are you implying that you believe the coin deserves a higher grade?

If so, I disagree. That spotting is should have kept it out of the holder entirely, IMHO.

If thats a MS66, then I have boxes of MS71 coins I need to send in.

That coin reminds me of those free PCGS national park quarters last year. I think most were 65, some 66s. Many of us received some pretty awful, spotted, overgraded coins. This coin could be originally sourced from some sort of tv coin show, where they get these huge price breaks and then sell complete 2010 mint sets all of the same grade and even with cool little inserts. I bet that coin was sold to some poor noob for like $30+SH and enrollment in autoship.

Ahh--good info--thanks all, I just can't belive that if the standards are so 'high'-then what the heck??/ Whom approved this grade? Anyways, still love the cents-but I will not buy this coin or any other in a holder without looking at the other side of the coin in the holder!

I'm starting to see why this coin is like this. I just cracked open a few 2013-P, not a single clean coin in 4 rolls. Every coin looks like this in a certain light. I have 2 that dont have any scuffs on the cheek and jaw, but all of them are scuffed in the hair and above the VDB.

Those scuffs are common for the newer cents. It seems to be the worst when they come from the plastic shrink-wrapped rolls.
