I had posted previously about bringing money to a local coin show. As it was only the third one I had visited, I wanted to be prepared. Well at the show I found her, my Trade dollar. Now I was looking at an xf range but something about her caught my eye and with a trade was able to not pay as much for this au50. I didn't notice the wear being as present until I got home (it has to be the lighting at these shows, cause I've run into this issue before) But all and all I'm happy, I figure if nothing else, if I find a better example in either an au or xf it'll be a swap au for au, or money back au for xf. Again my gut reaction was I had to have her so I'm satisfied (for now....mwahaha) and I'm kind of happy that monkey is off my back, it's refreshing.
Very nice and congrats. To me it looks like theres still a good amount of luster in those protected areas :thumb:
Nice find and I know the feeling as I picked up my 1877 trade about 3 weeks ago at a coin show for my 7070 set. Mine is a raw coin but ended up getting her for $40 less than asking so I to was a happy camper!
Trade dollars are fun coins to pursue...I've got a soft spot for them. I recently came across a British trade dollar and French trade dollar. I'm keeping my eye out for others...I believe the Japanese minted a trade dollar...not sure if there were others. I'm tempted to pull my US trade dollar out of my seated Liberty type set to start a trade type set. Then again, I could just buy another one... congrats on the acquisition!
i have a question but you are certainly not obligated to answer it. i happen to want one of those too. aside from my straight-investment silver in poured bar form i collect strange "groups" of coins. for example. i collect ASEs and CMLs in "one of every year" form. i also collect "one of every type"...for example, i have one of every kind of dime in roughly au-50 or greater form. i am curious what your "deal" was that you worked out. i do not care for morgans (dont crucify me people) but i have a few i would be curious to see what they would bring in trade value to use as trade fodder.
I had some Morgan's I took to the show with me, 1881-S and 82-S MS65. He wanted $350 for the trade dollar, I asked about a trade and he offered $100 each on the Morgan's. I'd pay $150 then for the trade dollar, I settled on $250 and gave him my 1881 Morgan.
