I picked up this 1942-D Mercury Dime with a RPM and am having a hard time attributing it. The pictures below show several potentially good markers. The mintmark is rotated with split serifs top and bottom and a bit of the upper vertical bar and a bit of the lower arm showing. The mintmark is positioned a bit high but not quite touching the leaves. There is a die crack from the top of the E in AMERICA to the top of the I. There is strong channeling along the back of the head from the bottom of the feathers to the back edge of the bust, on the head right below the B in LIBERTY and from the bridge of the nose down to the lips. If anyone has any insights, I'd appreciate input.
You specimen does look to be a 42 D/D Mercury but does not look like the FS-10-1942D-501 shown in CPG, maybe a new variety of said date. Nice find and coin .
grnwavdav, I think you hit it. The Wexler RPM-008 is a pretty good fit. Thanks to you and Paddy54 for responding.
