Avid coin collector here, know next to nothing about paper money. Was admiring some fractional currency today and my question is how can you tell what the FR# is?
Fractional Curreny was issued by "Issue" 1st thru 5th Issues.. This was during the Civil War period and used due to coin being hoarded and not circulating well in the USA. There is ton's of information on fractionals out there for you...to me the 4th and 5th Issues have the nicer artistic appeal..but the earlier issues can be worth more $$ some of the 3rd issue notes can be pricey...many folks here collect them so I am sure someone will speak up... I once had the complete 4th and 5th issues and was working on the 3rd..
Good info Steve.. thanks...I looked at my old books and thought they did not list Fr's.... but looking closer they are listed. Excuse the mis-information and my original post was edited. Appreciate the heads up.
I have used this site before http://www.moneyfactory.gov/fractionalcurrency.html I can't remember if I got much info or not from it, but I had it saved in my favorites.
