Cool! I'm actually about to purchase the Glenn Peterson's Guide to Bust Halves. I talked to John Burns (a Big Coin Book Dealer) and he said that Peterson's book was the Best! SM
SM: I agree that Peterson's book is very good and a good guide to identify some of those very diffivult Overton varieties. However, Don Parsley's book, the new 4th editionof the Overton book (Don is Overton's son in law) is excellent. The only problem that I have with it is that the paper is cheap. Otherwise, excellent.
Speedy: Peterson's book-- "The Ultimate Guide to Attributing Bust Half Dollars" is excellent. He does not show each date by full coin, rather, he provides "pick-up-points" for attributing the varieties. Overton's uses descriptions, Peterson uses descriptions and clear magnified photos. Excellent guide for the Bust half nut.
One more quick question. I also noticed that Glenn Peterson did a book called "Bust Fever" is this a good book, too? Thanks, SM
Bust Fever: I have heard of it, but I've never seen it. However, consider: Edgar E. Sounders's book: The Top 100 R4 and R5 Capped Bust Half Dollar Varieties and Sub-Varieties. A small book, easy to fit into a pocket (but I don't-- I take extreme care of my books) an easy guide to scarcer varieties from 1807 to 1836. The book is easy to carry around at coin shows if you are looking for scarcer varieties.
Well, I went ahead and purchased a copy of "Bust Fever" people are saying it's a Great book! Edgar E. Sounders is going to sign it, also! I also purchased the RAG pocket book like you mention above. Look forward to receiving them! I'm still on the hunt for the 2 other Bust Half books. SM
Sheesh, ANOTHER book that I've just gotta have. I guess that I'll have to start building books shelves, hmmm...these tax books are kinda old... Oh, well. Another collection to start. I already have all editions of Overton, including a first edition, signed by Overton. Now to add Don Parsley. :rolling:
I own Overtons Revised Edition Copyright 1970. I bought it when I was a Kid. I would definatly pay $75 for a signed copy. Of course we all know Al Overton has been deceased........
