I know there was not a "S" 63 Franklin, but I was WISHING this could be a D/S mintmark. Hey, a guy can dream, right?

The mintmark took a hit on the bottom left side. It is damage.
    Keep up the hunt!

I agree on the post mint damage.

But it does look to be a rpm d/d from my phone anyhoo

I disagree on the PMD Looks to be a RPM and part of the D was hit off. My reasons are Unless someone doctored the D I can't see how the D would be damaged in its location on the coin as there are higher points then that area of the D. I am not saying it's has any huge value just playing the  advocate.

A coin can get a contact mark pretty much anywhere on the surface. It's not like lightning where it will only hit the highest point in a given area. As for the RPM, it still looks like either damage or mechanical doubling to me, but I'm not an expert on Franklin Halfs.

Since this coin is far from being uncirculated, I could see it in a pocket in the time with keys and other pointy objects. Of course , no one could prove that, nor with the damage whether a RPM or not, so I would just go with PMD.

Technically, lightning will only hit the most favorable place for it to hit. Generally that is the highest point but not always. :)
