i sent in a 1875-s trade dollar in a PCI holder to anacs for a crossover,it came back in the same holder and they said it had pvc damage,i cracked it out, cleaned it,sent it back and they said it was fake. i called to find out why? and they couldn't find any notes to tell me why they think its fake. i'm very disapointed in Anacs,
why didn't they say it was fake the first time i sent it in? i don't think i will be using them any more, they couldn't even find any thing about the first time i sent it CS just said sorry a lot of trade $ are counterfeit

Probably because once they spotted the PVC damage they didn't look at the coin any further. The second time, with the PVC gone, they did examine the coin carefully.

BTW I'll take ANACS' authenticity opinion over PCI's twice a day and three times on the weekend

i'm mad not that they said its fake but that they don't give you any reason behind the finding, and calling they don't have any information.customer service was a joke.(must have ben lost in the move)

Why don't you send it out to be graded and slabed, then you will know for sure.

From what I hear from Dealers PCI is really good for authenticiy.....in fact some of the big time dealers say that they use PCI alot because they can send in a key date coin and get it back faster than any place eles and still sell it.

I don't see anything suspicious from the photos, however trade dollar counterfeits are really tricky. I would recommend weighing it. It should weigh 27.22 grams plus or minus 0.1 grams. If the weight isn't in those, I would suggest it is certainly fake. If not, I would say it has a good shot at being real.

Unfortunately, a HUGE number of trade dollars are counterfeit, and what's worse is they are super tricky to identify as such, except for the crude copies.
