I would tighten the range down to about $16 t0 $17 if you are buying, and perhaps 20% to 25% less if you go to sell it to a dealer.
Both quotes go against each other--a coin in VF-EF has seen circulation and is not just as it was made...each coin is has a grade---the grades can range from Poor-1 to MS70----or PF70 (For Proof coins)----the grade is found by judging the ammount of wear/marks/nicks/luster/eye appeal/etc.....now the coin is more than likely in teh VF/EF range as you said that is how I see hundreds of Morgan dollars----but like I said below---I'm not an expert.....so post some photos and maybe some of the guys can grade the coin for you and then we can get the price. Speedy
Cmon Speedy, don`t be a moron. This non collecting person made an observation. For you to be high and mighty, and say it should be a non-existant MS70 grade, based on their observation , is ignorant. You know better, they do not. Of course the non-collector often thinks a coin they have is in pristine, absolute mint condition. Of course, we as "experts" know better. It downright comes to you being superior and elitest in your attitude to the newbies, who only come here for some knowledge and advice. If you are still a moderator for Coin-Talk, then maybe Peter needs to re-think the moderator role. Give your opinion as one of the crowd. Perhaps you should have another posting name aside from your moderator name. BRUCE
I think my point was that IF it was just as it was made then it would be higher than the first grade posted---I guess my post should have had a Toung-in-check icon---and I'm sorry it wasn't taken that way--- I'm not an expert and never have said I was---the only thing I know for sure is that there is alot to learn in coins.... I'm sorry if you took my comment in that way---I never want to come across to be high and mightly---and I always try to re-read my post to make sure it doesn't sound like that. Just because we are called Moderator does not mean that we are experts or anything other than a member---we go by the same rules you, and all of the other members do....and coming across as a know-at-all is something I don't want to be---please know that I'm sorry. Speedy
Sorry bz but I'd have to side with Speedy on this one.I went back and re-read his post and it looks to me like he WAS indeed trying to educate the new guy and not demean him.I agree that the "both quotes go against each other" part might possibly be misinterpreted but if you notice,he goes on to carefully explain the statement. Maybe we should just let this one slide? I also noticed that nobody asked what mintmark it was, presumably Philly but plec might not be aware of this.So...plec..does it have a mintmark on the back ,right below the wreath and above the D and O in Dollar? If it has an "S" or a "CC",you're in luck.
Hey Mikjo I have gone back and edited it to make it better---Bz was right that it sounded rude. Speedy
Hey BZcollector....Geeezes, a little tough on the Speedster huh? Based on the posters original message, the intent when read by a person that has knowledge of coins was taken as if the poster knew what he was asking. How would you feel if you said something to a lawyer and then the lawyer slammed you into the ground because you were ignorant to the legal lingo, which by the way most of are. Given the basis of the post, the request for a image of the coin was correct. Only until the poster came back and said "it's like new made" could one understand the level of knowledge he had. In my opinion, you owe Speedy an apology!! RickieB
