Dryer coin?

    It does appear that it was either heavily circulated or spent some time in a dryer. Either way, the effect that you are seeing is not something that occurred at the mint.

    If the edge is flattened uniformly around the entire circumference, it is more likely that it has been "spooned" rather than a dryer coin.
