I have inherited a coin that is dated 1909. It has king edward on the head side and brittania on the tails side. it looks similar to a farthing/ half penny/penny but there is no denomination marked on it.It also looks more brassy than copper.
It much more useful if you could post an image of the item. A picture tells a thousand words. If that is out of the question, then perhaps you could let us know exactly what the legends say (both sides) ; is there anything on the edge?; is Britannia seated or standing? and can provide a measure of the diameter in mm's so we have some concept of the size.
Photos and description The coin does have a milled edge. At the base of the neck there is DL 5. in very small letters. On the oter side to the right of 1909 again v small is B.F.? or possibly B.P.
You can always put the images onto a web page. There's a number of free hosting sites that allow you to do this, or you can use your own website if your ISP provides you with web space (most do these days). Then all you need to do is let us know the address / url of the page you've hosted it on.
Diameter is 19mm. Legend on head side - Edwardvs V11 D: G: Britt: OMN: REX F: D; IND: IMP . On the reverse there is no legend and I have come to the conclusion that its King george slaying a dragon fom horseback.
So, it really doesn't look anything at all like a farthing, halfpenny, or penny...and there is no britannia...... . From your description, it appears you *may* have a `half sovereign'. These are gold coins but the date concerned attracts little collector value above their actual gold value. Now you need to get hold of scales. The coin (if it is genuine) should weigh in at 3.9940 grams. I say thuis because in the absence of an image, it could well be `toy' money, or a forgery. If you get it weighed and it comes in at 3.9 grams then you have the real McCoy and its gold content is worth about $75 going by the current gold prices.
